Project Contact;  Email; projects@richflood.com  Call +234 814 524 5247

Richflood was appointed by Diaonne Agro-Industrie SARL (DAI) in August 2022 to conduct an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the construction and operation of a cashew nut processing plant at Boké, Republic of Guinea Project and, in doing so, assess impacts associated with all project phases being construction, operation and decommissioning phases.

Project Brief; Diaonne Agro-Industrie SARL plans to build a second processing plant of similar size and capacity as the current one in Kankan (10,000 metric tons per annum). The plant will be built in Boké, the largest cashew production basin in Guinea, located 170 miles from the port in Conakry.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION DOCUMENT (BID) FOR THE PROPOSED CASHEW NUT PROCESSING PLANT BOKE, GUINEA ESIA

Project Title; Cashew nut processing plant Boké, Guinea, ESIA

Project Location; The project is Located at Boké, Republic of Guinea

About the Project

  • DAI’s finished products are unflavoured cashew nut kernels of different calibers that are vacuum-packed into 21-kilogram boxes[1] and shipped to Asia (Vietnam, Turkey) in 20-feet containers. The raw cashew nuts that will be processed into kernels will be sourced from licensed brokers and smallholder farmers in the Boké region.

  • It is planned that the new plant will employee up to 500 FTE and 80% of women employees. A condensed version of DAI’s current organogram is provided in Appendix for reference. The Boké plant will have similar organisation under the leadership of the current HQ staff (individuals in the grey boxes in Appendix).

  • Management estimates the total cost of the Project at $9.8m including a working capital requirement of $4.0m. The proposed DFC funding will be used for plant construction, equipment purchase, and working capital and contingencies.

  • DAI has retained Societe de Gestion Immobilière et de Construction (« SOGICO ») for the construction of the plant. SOGICO is a Guinea-based company with 15 years of experience in construction and civil works; DAI had also retained SOGICO for the construction of its first plant. Processing equipment will be sourced from Mekong Technology Vietnam or a peer company offering similar cashew processing equipment. DAI expects the construction of the plant to take 12 to 18 months.

  • The Boké region has a total population of 1.3 million and a poverty rate of 51.5% . The project has potential for high development impact by supporting the livelihoods of approximately 1,000 smallholder farmers as well as industrialisation in Guinea, a low-income country with GNI per capita of $1.020 (2020) and a poverty rate of more than 40%.
